Street Party

Gotta love Nashville. I don’t think there are many other places in the world where you can see an Alan Jackson concert and an Eric Church concert on a stage set up in the middle of a downtown street. For free.

My friend from the Ski Club, Kendall Sue didn’t believe me. So I took her and my wife last night. It was a great party!

Great Song by the Mavericks

This link is for is one of my favorite songs of all time, and my top favorite by the Mavericks. I regret that they broke up after just a couple of albums. At least Raul Malo is still performing – he has a great voice.

Songs With Names

Monday, July 25th, 2011

There are tons of songs out there that are titled or about a certain person’s name. I always thought it would be cool to have a song written about a guy – a nice guy, mind you – named Ed. I can’t think of a single one. Not for Ed or even Eddie.

There are other names that bring a song to mind right away. How about “Layla” by Eric Clapton? And “Amanda” by Merle Haggard? “Ode to Billie Joe” by Bobbie Gentry? There are hundreds.

My sweet friend Alicia has the same problem. No one has written a song about Alicia – and it is a great name!

Art and Music

One of my all time favorite songs is one that I just happened to hear by chance. I discovered a band called the Gipsy Kings, back in the early 1990′s. One of the songs from an album that I heard, despite never getting any airplay, is called “Life and Liberty.” It is an instrumental featuring acoustic guitars and it always soothes me to hear it. It must have been fate drawing me to this song, because I know of no other reason why I would have listened the first time. Now I play it quite a bit as a favorite instrumental.

Try this link for the music video created by an artist, D C Langer, who paints and used the Gipsy Kings song as a background music to showcase his artwork:

Premium Channels Are Where it’s At!

Saturday, May 14th, 2011

Thanks to Wm Rowe for the guest post!

The worst part of basic cable is the lack of good channels on my TV. I can never find anything worth watching, so it almost defeats the purpose of turning on the TV! I knew I needed to bite the bullet and sign up for something better, so I checked out www.ClearTVBundle.com and found a package that suited my needs. The best part was, I’ve totally got all the best movie channels like HBO and Showtime now! Everyone knows that’s where the best shows are! I actually enjoy the onDemand feature the best, going back and watching old episodes of classics like The Sopranos and Six Feet Under. I like HBO’s new offerings, but the old shows really can’t be beaten. I now know the meaning of “appointment TV,” although it’s nice being able to watch shows on my own time, too. I never knew how much I was missing until after I set up my premium channel connection, and now I’ll never be hurting for a good channel to watch. No more surfing for me!
