Errands

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

I cannot believe that I have spent the entire day driving around town running errands. I’ve been on the go since 8:00 this morning and am just now getting home. I have been to all kinds of stores and gone through over $400 in small purchases here and there. Boy, they really add up!

I’m looking forward to a quiet evening with a nice dinner and a movie, and tomorrow will be hockey followed by two NFL playoff games.

Elf

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

Tonight we saw the movie Elf. For some reason I have never watched this movie, starring Will Ferrell, until now. It has been out for several years. I wonder what has kept me from watching this cute Christmas movie?

New Moon Premiere

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Just about every teenage girl that I know and their moms are all excited about today. They’ve all been counting down the days to the USA premiere of the second vampire movie, Twilight: New Moon.

I did watch the first movie. It was pretty good. I don’t think it was worth all the hype we are getting for this series of books about a clumsy, silly high school girl and her vampire boyfriend.

We will soon find out if this new movie is as good as the first one – my daughter and wife are going tonight to the 11:00 pm showing. It was the first one they could buy advance tickets to see – the earlier shows have been sold out for two weeks.

The Next Transformers Movie

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

Transformers director, Michael Bay, has announced a third “Transformers” movie will be released in theaters on July 1, 2011. this is a full year earlier than originally announced.

I’m not sure what is going to take so long. Maybe getting Megan Fox prepped and coached for the simple lines and action scenes will take a lot of effort from the production team again. The director’s snarky comments toward her are very amusing. To be honest, it would not break my heart if they found a new bimbo to be in the third movie. Cut that ignorant Fox loose and find someone with looks and a good attitude – Hollywood is full of them.

Mr. Deeds

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

There is a great Adam Sandler movie called, Mr. Deeds, that was on the TBS channel today. I saw the first half of it this morning but had to leave to run errands, so then I happened to catch it on again tonight, so I watched the last half. The movie is a romantic comedy, with Lindsey Lohan the love interest.

One of the nice guys that happens to be a comedian is Adam Sandler. He has consistently put out good movies, most of them family oriented and harmless. He was a guest on the David Letterman show a few months ago, I was even more impressed with the way he handled himself on stage talking candidly with Letterman.

Matt and Adele

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

Matt Damon is one of the movie stars that I love to watch. I know he does a lot of other things in Hollywood – like being producer of a hit TV series, Entourage. But his Bourne Identity films and The Shooter are all great action movies.

So when I heard he was going to be the guest host on Saturday Night Live this weekend, I cleared the decks to make sureĀ  could watch.

The music guest ronight is Adele. I saw her on the Craig Ferguson Show a couple months ago and she has a great vocal range. Her music style is a little hard to place. There’s not a lot of demand for lounge singers in today’s market. But maybe some of the jazz and adult contemporary radio stations will like what she sings.

Movies Worth a Look?

Saturday, July 11th, 2009

It’s been months since I went to a movie theater. I just haven’t seen any movie titles that looked worth driving to a theater and paying eight dollars to sit in a large dark room with a hundred other people. Some of the theaters charge more than eight dollars, and the popcorn and candy and soda and what all can really add up. Not that I’m being cheap, but we can easily spend $40 or $50 just to watch an hour and a half movie. So if I’m spending that much money, I want the movie to be really good.

I did watch the new Transformers movie. It was really good and it was worth the $40.

Anybody have suggestions for another really good show? I don’t mind doing it again on a rainy day when there’s nothing else to do.

Digital 3D

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

The movie schedule at Opry Mills Mall has a listing for the new Transformers movie on the regular large screen and also a separate listing for the Transformer movie on their huge IMAX screen. We decided to do the regular screen last week when we went to see Transformers, Revenge of the Fallen. If you get a good seat near the front of the regular screen, the movie can be overwhelming with all the fighting scenes and fast action. I think that seeing it in the IMAX theater would be overwhelming.

Going back to the theater this week, we chose the new “Ice Age, Dawn of the Dinosaurs,” in 3D. We noticed that there were listings on the schedule for Ice Age in 3D and also Ice Age not in 3D. We thought that 3D might add an extra “oomph” to the movie and spent the extra money on tickets to see it in 3D. I think the extra charge helped cover the cost of the 3D glasses you have to wear during the movie, because these tickets were over $15 more than the cost of the Transformers tickets.

There must be a difference between digital 3D and the other 3D that I remember from childhood. The old fashioned 3D movies require viewers to wear glasses that have one blue lens and one red lens. But the 3D glasses we wore at Ice were both gray lenses. They look like a normal pair of cheap Foster Grant sunglasses. So now I am curious as to why the color and what triggers the 3D in digital 3D. Time to do some research on the internet and see if I can find out what’s the difference.

Which Remote?

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

There is a basket of remote controls beside the big TV in the living room. The most important remote control is the one for the cable box. This controller came with the digital converter box and turns on or off both the cable box and the TV, and changes the channels through the cable box.

But I have other remote controls, too. One for just the TV, one for the DVD player, one for the Wii, and one for the ceiling fan. Each one of these requires batteries and needs to be used with the right equipment. Without the remotes, some of this equipment does not work at all. I feel like a slave to remotes.
