Helping Allergy Sufferers Breathe

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

With Mother’s Day approaching, I have been thinking a lot about my mom lately. So many childhood memories come up when I think about my mom and dad. Something that had a huge impact on our lives together was my mom had severe allergies to ragweed and several other things. The ragweed was the worst. We called it “hayfever” and we had to use air conditioning all summer long during the hot days, and we used a Vaporizer at night to help her breathe better.

I learned about Vaporizers as a kid and have been a fan of running one at night when someone is having trouble with irritated sinuses or bronchitis. The extra moisture in the air makes a huge difference, and adding a dab of Vicks vaporub helps even more. Depending upon where you live, you could have allergies in the Spring, which are mostly tree pollen or grass, or over the summer, which is grass and ragweed, or the fall, which is leaf mold. All of these types of allergies respond well to extra moisture in the air at night.

A new development in night treatments is the Volcano Vaporizer, which we found out about from a neighbor who is a 24 hour day care provider. She swears by it for one of the little kids that she cares for at night.

Easter Blessings

Sunday, April 24th, 2011

Easter is one of my favorite holidays and this year we have been especially blessed. I hope everyone getsĀ  to enjoy their Easter Sunday with a morning service, plenty of candies and a delicious dinner with family or friends. We have plans for a big dinner at my daughter’s house and then we will watch the hockey game on TV – after all, this is the playoffs.

Happy Easter to all!

Spring Forward!

Saturday, March 12th, 2011

Here it is, the weekend for adjusting clocks and observing Daylight Savings Time. Before I fall asleep tonight I will change all the clocks in the house. I used to change them first thing in the morning, but one year we had helpful hands adjusting some clocks and not others and by the time everyone was up and dressed that morning, no one had any clue what time it really was. So after that little escapade, we had a family meeting and it was declared that only I would be the one to change the clocks in this house. So that’s my plan for tonight – right before bed and tomorrow we will all know what time it is when we wake up.
