Model Car Kits
Saturday, August 20th, 2011A friend of mine discovered three huge boxes of model car kits in his garage over the weekend. The model cars are all NASCAR cars with featured drivers and car numbers related to the year make and model of each car. There are about 60 or 70 boxes of them. That’s a pretty cool find. I wonder if he is going to try to put them together and paint them? Or more likely just put them on Ebay and sell them off for the extra cash.
Tourist Tips
Thursday, August 4th, 2011One of the guys I went to school with must be having one of those traditional mid life crises we always hear about He got divorced two years ago and has been going nuts every since with all kinds of crazy stunts. He called me a couple weeks ago asking about San Francisco, Castro Area, for a planned trip. I was surprised that he would ask me, although I did live in the Bay area for 6 months. But I lived in Fremont, not the Castro Area.
The Castro Area is known for the upscale, interior designers and fashion icons, with an assortment of Gay bars and boutiques. In fact, The Castro is notorious world-wide for being a gay hotspot. There are always fun things to do in The Castro, especially if you like people watching.
My focus while living in the San Francisco area was to try as many different Restaurants as I could afford to explore. There are almost no chain restaurants anywhere, so you have to be brave and try all the places with unfamiliar names. Some are real hole in the wall places, and many are inside or nice hotels. But it helps a lot of you know someone who has already been there or at least have a good place to look them up online for reviews.
I also really liked the Coffee Shops and made a point to spend at least an hour or two every weekend at a different cafe, reading the Chronicle or people watching. It was a really nice way to absorb the flavor of each community.
Great Song by the Mavericks
Thursday, July 28th, 2011This link is for is one of my favorite songs of all time, and my top favorite by the Mavericks. I regret that they broke up after just a couple of albums. At least Raul Malo is still performing – he has a great voice.

Songs With Names
Monday, July 25th, 2011There are tons of songs out there that are titled or about a certain person’s name. I always thought it would be cool to have a song written about a guy – a nice guy, mind you – named Ed. I can’t think of a single one. Not for Ed or even Eddie.
There are other names that bring a song to mind right away. How about “Layla” by Eric Clapton? And “Amanda” by Merle Haggard? “Ode to Billie Joe” by Bobbie Gentry? There are hundreds.
My sweet friend Alicia has the same problem. No one has written a song about Alicia – and it is a great name!
