A Box and a Lock

Sunday, June 27th, 2010

As I was putting my gear back into my locker at the country club this morning, it occurred to me that I’ve been hanging clothes, shoes and equipment into lockers for about 80% of my life. How interesting that I’ve been completely assimilated and trained to put everything into a small rectangular container and walk away for several, with the full expectation that when I return, all my belongings will still be there, waiting for me.

It all started with School Lockers, as early as 5 years old for most children. Of course, when I was a small child, we used hooks in a closet for the first few years of grade school. We didn’t get actual lockers until middle school.

When I got back to the office, I decided to search online for Lockers for sale. It was interesting to me to see how many different kinds of lockers are used in every day life. The only thing that has changed is that you can no longer rent lockers in an airport. One of the effects of anti-terrorism and modern life.

No Relief in the Gulf

Saturday, June 26th, 2010

The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico continues to spew thousands of gallons of oil into the water. This whole situation is unbelievable to me. How can this continue to gush unabated? Why have they not found a way to plug this thing? Obama seems content with BP’s explanation that they are working as hard as they can to find a solution and that they will clean up all the mess on U. S. land and waters. Meanwhile the wildlife is being killed a terrible death and our waters are being poisoned by the raw oil. The beaches are having tarballs wash up onto the beaches and it is unsafe to swim in the waters of three Gulf states. They have to stop this!

Tough Job Market

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

With unemployment over 10 percent since I can remember, there are a lot of qualified people looking for good jobs and the competition is heavy. I don’t blame them if they feel like a piece of meat at the butcher shop. It’s tough out there.

Quick Lunch

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

Today I had to run out for a quick lunch and wanted more than a burger. It is so hot out, that even getting in the hot car was a chore. Thank goodness the air conditioner in my car gets cold really fast, and before I left the parking lot I was cooling off and comfortable.

Traffic was horrible, so I stayed on the east side of the interstate and found a little sandwich shop in a shopping center. I decided to stop there and get a hoagie, a bag of chips and a cold drink. Ordering the hoagie was easy – choosing the cold drink was the hard part.

I’ve given up dark sodas. No more Pepsi or Coke – and not even Dr. Pepper. Just for the summer. This is a little experiment that I’m trying, to see if the dark sodas have an effect on my taste for sweets and possibly for weight loss. So I’m ordering Sprite, Mountain Dew, and cold green teas and flavored teas. So today it was a Mountain Dew.
