Look It Up

Saturday, October 11th, 2008

I hear words on TV and on the street and sometimes I have no idea what they are talking about. Like today, I was chatting up a guy in line at the gas station. Asked if he had watched a certain TV show the previous night. He said, “No, I was knocked up.”

Now, I didn’t know that guys could get knocked up. I thought that phrase meant that a girl got pregnant, usually out of wedlock or by someone other than her husband. It’s generally considered a bad thing.

So what was going on with this guy? I have no idea what he was talking about. I even tried to look it up on the Urban Dictionary and they got nothing different for me.

TGIF

Friday, October 10th, 2008

Thank goodness it is Friday. Its been a long week and I don’t think I can stand one more day of this week – it needs to be over so I can lick my wounds and move on to bigger and better things.

I’m heading out for work and just want a day under the radar. I hope to have a nice quiet lunch by myself and get home a little early so I can take a nap and rest up before going to work again tonight.

Boring Debate Night

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

First of all, I don’t like to watch debates. It stinks that all the TV channels were showing the debate tonight, so none of my regular shows were on at all.

The debate was mostly the same stuff that we’ve been hearing from the candidates. There were no big surprises or announcements. There were no big moments at all. Just a lot of sniping at each other.

So after about 10 minutes of that nonsense I put in a movie instead of being tortured by boredom.

Spellcheck Doesn’t Catch Them All

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

Spellcheck is one of the greatest inventions of modern time. I love it and I use it daily. But it doesn’t catch everything and sometimes I’m in a hurry. So if you see a mistake within one or two posts, be aware that sometimes I get a visit by the Typo Fairy and there’s just not much I can do about it.

Bush Beans

Saturday, October 4th, 2008

Have you seen the TV commercials for Bush Beans? The ones where the guy talks about a secret family recipe and his dog suddenly talks and hints at giving away the secret. there’s a whole series of the commercial where the dog embarrasses the guy. I don’t know if you can buy Bush beans all over the country or if they are a regional brand. So if they don’t sell the beans where you live, I wonder if you would ever see the commercials?

Breast Cancer Awareness

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

Everything is turning up pink around here. October is breast cancer awareness month, and there are a lot of celebrities promoting the cause, like Rachel Ray giving free mammograms to everyone in the audience one day last week and Ellen donating money to match promotional games and contests. The grocery store has all kinds of containers turning pink, like the Folgers coffee canisters and egg cartons. It is great to see this worthy cause getting both the publicity and the support from important people.

Carmex

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

As a kid when we had a problem with chapped lips, mom would pull a tube of Chapstick from her purse and dab it on our lips. There was just one flavor – regular white Chapstick. We used it mostly in the winter because the dry winter air and wind would make everything chapped.

It wasn’t until about 10 years ago that I discovered Carmex. A friend from Oklahoma came to visit and had a tube of carmex in his pocket. I had no idea what it was even for! But come to find out, it works great for chapped lips – in a totally different way from Chapstick. So now I’m a fan of the Carmex and I carry it with me all the time.
