Fright Night

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Big weekend for frightful fun. There are haunted houses, club crawls and private parties busting out all over. We’ll be dressed up and drunk within a couple hours. Really looking forward to a crazy crazy night.

It was easy to find pirate stuff this year for a costume so I decided to add a twist and be a ghost pirate. I added some shiny parts to my regular pirate gear. My yoke shirt and leather breeches still fit after all these years. So I just needed a feathered hat and new vest, and I bought some rubber gloves that are painted like skeleton hands. Stopped shaving last week so I have a scruffy face then I painted it white and grey. Bought a silly gold hoop earring that isn’t pierced – thank God.

It’s all about plundering tonight, mateys – in a good way of course.

Kitty Costume

Sunday, October 26th, 2008

My sister has a cat. Don’t hate her for that. There’s three kinds of people in this world: cat people, dog people, and other people. Trust me, I am not a cat people.

As far as cats go, this one puts up with a lot from her and her brat kids. Look at what they’ve done to that poor kitty for Halloween.

Too Funny

Wall Street Joke of the Week:

“This is worse than divorce. I’ve lost more than half of my net worth and I still have my wife.”

Classic Panhead

Saturday, October 25th, 2008

This is the 57 Panhead that my buddy Mike has been working on. He finally finished it up and took it out on the road for a couple of weeks while the weather is still nice. Since he rebuilt the engine it has a little over 3,000 miles on it.

This weekend he took it down to the dealer and left it with them on consignment. It breaks your heart to let something like this go, but he has two more that need work and it will take the money from selling this one to pay for the parts and time to get the other two rebuilt and back on the road.

This is a great bike. If I had any extra money laying around I’d seriously consider buying it.

High School Football

Friday, October 24th, 2008

It has been years since I attended a high school football game. It would probably be more attractive to me if I knew any kids that played high school football. As a kid, I went to all the junior high and high school football games. It was THE place to be on Friday nights.

There is a lot of support for high school and college football in the South. One of the nice things about living in a smaller TV market is that the local news shows actually comment on the Friday night football results and show some video highlights of a few games. I think it is great that the kids get the TV exposure. At lest it is not more crime reports and depressing crap – sports are fun to watch and to particpate in and they build character.

Criminal Minds Episode Stunk

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

While I watched tonight’s episode of Criminal Minds, I had two naggin gthoughts. My first thought was that this show was more like a short slasher movie than a detective show. Has the writing really devolved so badly that they are attracting the lowest common denominator for an audience? I did not like this episode much at all – the whole story line was too horror film based for my taste.

My second thought was that the story seemed to have been written by women. I just don’t think that the hostage and rape scenes were played out in a manly way. It is hard to describe, but it seemed like the villain was too characteristic of a woman’s fantasy being played out. This dialogue did not sound authentic to me and the convenient ending was too deliberately ironic.

I think this was the worst episode I’ve seen and if it had been the first time I watched I would most likely not watch it again. But I know they can do better and certainly hope that next week’s episode was written by someone else, more true to the original writings.

Lost Wallet

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

After a day full or errands I came home and carried in the multiple bags of groceries and drug store purchases. Then I had dinner and took a shower to settle in for the night in front of the TV. While emptying my pockets I discovered my wallet was not in my jeans pocket. Well, that is an awful feeling to realize that your wallet has gone missing. I pulled my clothes back on and rushed out to the car to check if I had left it in the car. No sign of my wallet in the car. I got out a flashlight and checked the driveway and the grass between the car and my front door. Still no wallet.

Now I’m racking my brain for any thoughts as to where it could be. Where was the last store that I actually used the wallet? Did anyone bump into me and possibly pick my pocket? I could hardly sleep the entire night worried about my wallet and all my credit cards, ID, photos, etc.

In the morning I went out to the car and searched it again, top to bottom. Thankfully, I discovered my wallet was in the floorboard behind the center console. I guess in the dark of the night and just the dome light inside the car, I could not see the black wallet in the shadows. What a great feeling to discover what you thought had gone missing and realize that everything is intact!

Undefeated in 6 Games

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

Only one team in the NFL is undefeated after this weekend’s games. Who would have ever believed that the undefeated team is the Tennessee Titans? They have stunk up the joint the past two years and had so much drama with that idiot Pacman Jones and the prima donna Vince Young. I hate to say it, but VY getting hurt was the best thing that has happened to the Titans in 3 years.

At least they had the sense to get a decent back up quarterback, as Collins is proving well worth every penny they are paying him, bringing this Cinderella team to 6-0. I hope they keep Collins on the field as long as he is bringing them the wins.

The Pickens Plan

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

If you know of T. Bone Pickens, you know he is a very successful man who made his fortune in oil. So energy has been his livelihood and he knows that America needs to do something very different about our energy use and production. So, Pickens has a plan and has launched a campaign to get it done.

Check out his web site, called “The Pickens Plan” if you have any interest in helping America reduce our dependence on foreign oil. What he says make total sense to me.

Post It Notes

Monday, October 13th, 2008

I have post it note pads all over the house. I like having a pad in the kitchen for reminders to buy certain groceries. I keep a pad by the phone for WYWO. There’s a pad by the computer on my desk to make notes while surfing. A pad on the nightstand for late night notes. And a pad in each car.

They were invented by 3M back in the 1980′s. I wonder how we ever got along without post it notes.
