A Different Cruise

My brother and his fiance plan a long vacation every year, usually in September, which is after the prime summer season and before the prime winter season. In fact, in most parts of the world, September is milder weather and much easier to find deals on travel related services such as air fare, hotel rooms and even cruises.

His fiance, Regina, was born and raised in Germany, and most of her family is still in Germany. They have traveled to Germany several times to visit with her family and lately they have been joining her family on 2 week holidays.

Regina’s family has discovered a novel way to travel throughout Europe, Russia and even Egypt or China. They have learned about river cruises, which are very different from the ocean cruises we see advertised on TV here in the States.

River cruising is a slow float in luxury quarters up or down a scenic river, with scheduled stops at historic or famous port cities, such as Moscow, Prague, Budapest, Paris, Amsterdam, Vienna, Kiev, St. Petersburg, Shanghai and Cairo. It’s more intimate and socially satisfying and I’m totally intrigued.
